How to use 2023 design trends in your space

We've moved out of the living in sweatpants stage. While people still crave warmth and comfort, they are also entertaining more in their homes, so they want to show off their fresh new sense of style and breathe some new life into the areas of their homes that are feeling dated or tired.

2023 is about thinking big.

We're loving the return of earthy wood tones, bold colours, moody accents and rich patterns and textures against a backdrop of warm neutrals. And a big one is the return of curves… everything was really boxy and rectangular for a long time in design and now arched doorways and curved furniture are everywhere. It adds a nice softness to a space.

Here are three other trends you will see a lot of on social media and in design and decor magazines this year:

bold colours and wall coverings

After several years of neutral and calming spaces (and don't get me wrong, those are still very much in demand!) many people are opting to inject more drama, intrigue and excitement into their homes.

They're leaning into vivid colours and patterns that can really spark conversation.

Sometimes all it takes is one accent wall. But don't be afraid to for the  whole room.

And don't forget about your ceilings! They are also a great place to showcase your personality.

People are also discovering unique wallpaper murals which look like a big painting on the wall and can really bring a new dimension to their rooms.

warm wood tones

Wood has come back in a big way and expect to see a whole lot more of it in 2023.

Consider incorporating rich wood tones into your furniture and bathroom vanities, or mixing wood cabinet fronts with other colours in your kitchen to create visual interest and really express your personality.

The days of the all-white kitchen trend are over. Nowadays, great kitchen design is about curating a unique look that has elements of new and old. That's the best way to create a timeless aesthetic you can enjoy for years to come. After all, updating furniture and cabinetry is extremely expensive.

vintage decor

Vintage and vintage-inspired decor elements have made a big comeback as well — from hard finishes like tiles to wall art and decor.

People are loving intricate rug patterns and tapestries, vintage mirrors and fabrics.

In kitchens and bathrooms, we’re seeing a return to a more classic aesthetic: vintage-inspired lighting, textured tiles and vanity hardware that will patina over time. The key is to mix vintage in with modern elements so you can curate a unique look. Consider mixing vintage and modern styles in your home, rather than trying to make everything one specific style.
